CMAC Organizational Update

General Updates

We have a new Facebook discussion group that can be found here! We are also working on continuing to update the website more, and have been sending out newsletters about once a month.

Fundraising Updates

CMAC is doing great in fundraising and now has over 10,000 in its bank account! Most of our fundraising has come from individuals, football squares, and fundraising events. Starting in January 2025, we will start putting finance overviews in the document library on the website.

Our next fundraising event is planned for February 22, 2025: Monte Carlo night! More information will be coming soon, but you can check out the Facebook event in the meantime.

Residential I&I/Sewer Grant & Loan Program Update

There is no $12 fee anymore, and there are more generous grant-to-loan ratios! Nearly everyone will get a 100% grant in the first year. Hopefully, the new program PowerPoint will be added to the city website with the updated information.

The city expects it can only inspect and/or fund 600-700 repairs per year. However, those who sign up in 2025 and commit to doing the work, but can’t get inspected or have the work done until the next year will still get the same grant/loan terms as the year they signed up so long as they sign an agreement to get it done. If, for some reason, the work does not get completed according to the agreement, any grants or loans will be on the same terms as the year the work is completed in.

We still have a lot of questions that will hopefully be answered soon!

The City will be accepting appointments for one-on-one meetings starting in December to discuss individual situations. It is recommended that you get your inspections first, but it is not required. Different employees will answer questions.

We’ve asked for the inspection criteria, which appears to be similar to the previous one. We’ve asked for more clarification on what is considered mandatory and what will or will not be covered by the grant/loan program.

What happens next – Before the grant/loan program can be implemented, the city will either need to wait for a consent decree/federal judge to sign off or vote it in without the guarantee. Private laterals will be handled either way, but the “inside the house work” will not be reimbursed or paid for until either of those things happen. We’re also waiting for Stantec to complete a financial capability assessment, which may give us better terms or potentially even loan forgiveness, depending on the results. This report is expected to be completed in January.

The city plans to bid out the relining of private laterals starting in February. Before the laterals can be relined, a new sewer crew will need to prepare laterals for lining by fixing any cracks, misalignments, or otherwise broken laterals before they can be relined.

What CMAC is working on next

  • Continuing to work on Sewer Issues/Program
  • Amend or eliminate the NOR real estate disclosures for Maumee. We have found that the Northwest Ohio Board of Realtors’ new disclosures unfairly single out Maumee.
  • Advocating for Water and Rate Study, educating on purpose, benefits, and costs.
  • Learning more about the potential changes in refuse service (trash)
  • Updating or amending the Homeowners’ Building Permit Affidavit
  • Potential initiatives or Charter Amendment research

Next CMAC Meeting:
December 19th, 2024 6 pm at the Maumee Library
